{"id":5990,"date":"2011-02-01T07:44:50","date_gmt":"2011-02-01T12:44:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=5990"},"modified":"2011-02-01T07:44:50","modified_gmt":"2011-02-01T12:44:50","slug":"christie-threatens-cable-and-wireless","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2011\/02\/christie-threatens-cable-and-wireless","title":{"rendered":"Christie Threatens Cable and Wireless"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PLP leader Perry Christie says that if the PLP win the next general election, his party will reneg on the sale of BTC to Cable &amp; Wireless.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Christie gave right-thinking bahamians another resonj to not vote for the PLP, saying that should the PLP win the next general election, he will &#8220;aggressively renegotiate&#8221; the terms of the sale of BTC to Cable &amp; Wireless.<\/p>\n<p>Calling the deal &#8220;repugnant&#8221; to the national interest, Christie put Cable &amp; Wireless on notice that a PLP government would re-examine the provisions of the deal with the intention of renegotiating it.<\/p>\n<p>Such action is not without precedent.<\/p>\n<p>The PLP &#8220;re-negotiated&#8221; the terms of the Hawksbill Creek agreement, insisting that the powers of immigration control be taken from a private company and returned to the Bahamian government.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We do not believe that it (Cable and Wireless) is a trustworthy, reliable and capable strategic partner for the Bahamas and BTC.
