As a female activist and blooming politician I intend to make an impact on local and national levels&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Believing that \u201cservice is our best teacher,\u201d Ms Chervita Campbell has put her name forward as a candidate for Marco City to Freeport\u2019s local government, stating her reason for running is to bring increased action and communication to the communities of Marco City and by extension to Freeport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel the role of a City Council member should be one of listening to what the needs of the community are and then being active in addressing those needs.\u201d\u00a0 She also believes it is also the responsibility of the council to reach out to the community through open and honest communication and be accessible to the community to hear and address their needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am the type of person who wants to be involved in helping to get things done. I can\u2019t just be a spectator, waiting for others to get things done that I\u2019d liked to see happen. I believe that if you want it, it\u2019s up to you to make it happen for a better community and lifestyle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A graduate of Kent State University and Bethune-Cookman College , and a former Department of Social Services employee who worked with the elderly, Campbell feels she can make a difference in Marco City and Freeport\u2019s direction and growth. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>Growth can be very challenging for any community. Through my involvement in various clubs, projects and through coaching numerous sports teams, my interest is helping shape policies and decision-making as Freeport grows. I want to be directly involved in ensuring recreational and wellness assets in the community are a part of a larger effort to continue enhancing our \u2018small city\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Campbell was instrumental in supporting the Spay and Neuter Program with Grand Bahama Humane Society, Reach-Out Ministry, High School Deportment Award, Jr. Sailing \/ Regattas and Junkanoo; and feels that as a candidate for Marco City her main focus would be on the nuts and bolts of local government: infrastructure, educational development, and public safety which are to :<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Promote Neighborhood Watch and Urban Renewal programs to keep our communities safe.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Encourage our community parks are utilized in a safe and friendly environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Enhance the community after-school programs at Richard Gaitor Park and Wellington Ferguson Community Centre.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Continue dialog with the Grand Bahama Port Authority regarding their involvement of community development and infrastructure enhancement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Partner with churches, civic, and other organizations to expand community outreach and youth development programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Upgrade various parks throughout Marco City.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Assist the \u2018Keep Grand Bahama Clean\u2019 program in rebuilding community pride, backyard gardening, and clean yards.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Campbell went to St. Paul\u2019s Methodist College in Freeport and is a guidance counselor for the Department of Education for schools in Freeport, Eight Mile Rock, Grand Cay, and Andros. She is daughter too Cheryl Marshall and Clement Campbell of Grand Bahama and her dream is to one day establish a nursing home.
