{"id":62770,"date":"2014-05-01T09:58:39","date_gmt":"2014-05-01T13:58:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/target\/seven-deaths-for-2014-remain-unclassified-2"},"modified":"2014-05-01T09:58:39","modified_gmt":"2014-05-01T13:58:39","slug":"unclassified-deaths-skew-crime-statistics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2014\/05\/unclassified-deaths-skew-crime-statistics","title":{"rendered":"Unclassified Deaths Skew Crime Statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-19601\" alt=\"kill-murder-outline-crime\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/police-killing.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/police-killing.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/police-killing-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson said \u201cevery effort is being made\u201d to classify several unclassified deaths this year, five of which have occurred this month.<\/p>\n<p>Seven deaths in four separate incidents have yet to be classified for 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson, who was contacted for comment, indicated that police are concerned about the lingering matters.<\/p>\n<p>But he said police must be thorough with every investigation, some of which include forensic analyses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have our partners that we are affiliated with in terms of doing our DNA work, but sometimes some things linger longer than some people would like,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut every effort is being made to conclude all of these matters, which we are concerned with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On April 13, police found the partially-clothed body of a woman between 30 and 40 years of age in bushes near the entrance to Dignity Gardens, off Carmichael Road.<\/p>\n<p>Police said they were unable to determine the cause of death or the woman\u2019s identity and the death was being treated as a homicide.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson said police were still investigating that matter, but had not yet determined the cause of death.<\/p>\n<p>On April 3, the defense force found four burned bodies \u2014 three men and a woman \u2014 on Anguilla Cay. Authorities said tires were placed on top of them and they were set on fire.<\/p>\n<p>Defense force officials said they believed they were Haitians, but did not say what led them to believe that.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson said police are trying to complete their forensic investigation into that matter.<\/p>\n<p>He said as far as their identities and the classifications of those deaths \u201cwe haven\u2019t reached that stage yet\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>On February 8, police found the partially-decomposed body of a man in a shallow grave in Coral Harbour.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about that matter, Ferguson said police were still awaiting DNA results.<\/p>\n<p>On January 5, a man\u2019s body was found burned beyond recognition in a car off Cowpen Road, police said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are no closer now than we were with that incident,\u201d Ferguson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are still appealing to members of the public who may have information with that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson said that matter also required forensic analysis.<\/p>\n<p>He said each of those outstanding matters are being investigated as homicides.<\/p>\n<p>The murder count for 2014 stands at 39, according to The Nassau Guardian\u2019s records.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mct-ai-attriblink\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenassauguardian.com\/index2.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=46923&amp;print=1\" target=\"_blank\">Source:\u00a0 www.thenassauguardian.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If police admitted that the seven unclassified deaths were indeed murders, the crime statistics would jump from 39 deaths for the year to 46, setting the pace for a new murder record for 2014.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":19601,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"rop_custom_images_group":[],"rop_custom_messages_group":[],"rop_publish_now":"initial","rop_publish_now_accounts":{"facebook_10223285771444175_51037792744":""},"rop_publish_now_history":[],"rop_publish_now_status":"pending","footnotes":""},"categories":[12],"tags":[93,31,142,264,226,38],"class_list":["post-62770","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-headlines","tag-corruption","tag-crime","tag-incompetence","tag-liars","tag-murder","tag-police"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/62770","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=62770"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/62770\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/19601"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=62770"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=62770"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=62770"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
