\u201cThey read the same newspapers we read. They have the same Google alerts we have,\u201d Markantonis told The Nassau Guardian yesterday during an interview at the resort. \u201cThese are things we talk about.\u201d<\/p>\n
His comments came after the release of the U.S. Department of State 2014 Crime and Safety report, which details escalating levels of violent crime in New Providence.<\/p>\n
\u201cCrime has definitely come up,\u201d Markantonis said.<\/p>\n
As Brookfield Hospitality moves to refinance Atlantis\u2019 debt, Markantonis said he is often called to answer questions relating to crime in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir questions are, \u2018How does the crime impact tourism?\u2019\u201d he said, referring to Brookfield executives. \u201cAnd subsequently then, \u2018How could it impact Atlantis in the future?\u2019<\/p>\n
