{"id":68041,"date":"2014-06-10T10:52:26","date_gmt":"2014-06-10T14:52:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=68041"},"modified":"2014-07-04T12:00:06","modified_gmt":"2014-07-04T16:00:06","slug":"students-exposed-to-career-opportunities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2014\/06\/students-exposed-to-career-opportunities","title":{"rendered":"Students Exposed To Career Opportunities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-68043\" alt=\"btvi-student-career-02\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/btvi-student-career-02.jpg\" width=\"550\" height=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Career opportunities heated up recently during a Public Service summer job fair held for students of The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI).<\/p>\n<p>Students were given insight into the requirements, vetting process and benefits of joining the military branches including the Customs department, police and defence forces.\u00a0 Also present were representatives of the Department of Public Service and the only private sector participant, The Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC).<\/p>\n<p>Coordinator of BTVI\u2019s Student Affairs, Raquel Bethel noted that with graduation around the corner and BTVI\u2019s students joining the throng of other school and college leavers, it was imperative to expose them to additional areas in which they can utilize their skills.<\/p>\n<p>During his presentation, Police Corporal, Leonardo Burrows noted that policing is multi-dimensional, but it calls for discipline and hard work.\u00a0 He underscored that the force is not for a person who simply wants a job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a difference between a job and a career.\u00a0 We are looking for persons interested in making a lifelong commitment as opposed to people who show up, collect money, go home and bad-mouth the organization,\u201d said the officer of 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, representing BTC was Human Resources Manager, Elvado Turnquest, who urged the students to ensure their reputations are intact as the first impression is before the interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven the email address on your resume` should be professional. Also, some of the pictures and videos on the Internet are risqu\u00e9.
