{"id":6956,"date":"2011-03-14T08:47:09","date_gmt":"2011-03-14T12:47:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=6956"},"modified":"2011-03-14T08:47:09","modified_gmt":"2011-03-14T12:47:09","slug":"unions-want-10000-bahamians-to-protest-btc-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2011\/03\/unions-want-10000-bahamians-to-protest-btc-sale","title":{"rendered":"Unions Want 10,000 Bahamians To Protest BTC Sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Protestors against the sale of BTC to Cable &amp; Wireless  Communications plan to march on Parliament 10,000 strong when the House  of Assembly reconvenes to debate the controversial deal.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the approval from industry regulator the Utilities Regulation  &amp; Competition Authority&#8217;s (URCA) over the sale, union leaders and  other privatisation detractors say they will not give up their cause  until the deal is done.<\/p>\n<p>The final step in the acquisition process is a debate and vote in Parliament scheduled for March 21.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will continue to fight and protest on all fronts until a receipt is  generated by the Treasury to say they have received payment (from CWC),&#8221;  said Bernard Evans, head of one of the unions representing workers at  BTC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are asking for every working Bahamian to come out.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Union leaders want Bahamians to come out en masse to demonstrate against the sale of BTC to C&#038;W.
