{"id":7064,"date":"2011-03-16T19:19:47","date_gmt":"2011-03-16T23:19:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=7064"},"modified":"2011-03-16T21:23:10","modified_gmt":"2011-03-17T01:23:10","slug":"nib-prosecutes-growing-number-of-delinquent-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2011\/03\/nib-prosecutes-growing-number-of-delinquent-businesses","title":{"rendered":"NIB Prosecutes Growing Number of Delinquent Businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some 274 Bahamas-based employers were taken to court in January and February 2011 for failure to pay National Insurance Board (NIB) contributions.<\/p>\n<p>If this rate of prosecutions were to continue throughout this year, the number of businesses brought before the courts in 2011 will eclipse that seen in 2010 &#8211; when just under 1,000 firms faced legal action from the NIB for delinquency &#8211; by around 70 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>An even &#8220;bigger concern&#8221; for NIB than delinquent employers is the number of self-employed persons still not complying with their responsibility to make contributions to the social security scheme, with 70 per cent presently said to be delinquent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So far this year National Insurance Board (NIB)  has prosecuted about 274 Bahamas-based employers.
