{"id":765,"date":"2010-08-12T10:57:00","date_gmt":"2010-08-12T14:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=765"},"modified":"2010-08-12T11:15:30","modified_gmt":"2010-08-12T15:15:30","slug":"illegal-dumper-will-go-to-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2010\/08\/illegal-dumper-will-go-to-court","title":{"rendered":"Illegal Dumper Will Go To Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man who was caught red-handed dumping garbage illegally in the Marshall Road area last week could appear in court as early as next week to answer to the charge.<\/p>\n<p>Police from the East Street South Police Station are expected to slap him with a summons soon.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of State for the Environment, Phenton Neymour was giving members of the media a tour of wetlands in the area when he spotted Omar Stubbs dumping garbage from a truck near one of the canals.<\/p>\n<p>If Mr. Stubbs is found guilty of the offence he can be fined, face a term of imprisonment or both.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Environmental Health Act 1987, the indiscriminate dumping of garbage and solid waste material carries a fine of up to $1,000, a prison term of nine months or both fine and imprisonment for a first time offender.<\/p>\n<p>For a second conviction, a person can be fined $5,000, sentenced to one year in jail or given a fine and imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>According to Minister Neymour, who is also the Member of Parliament for the South Beach constituency, dumping has been a serious problem in the area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For many years in this constituency, we have had challenges with people [dumping] along the roadsides.
