Moore Library at The College of The Bahamas.\u00a0\u00a0 American Corner Nassau serves as an information outpost similar to a public library that makes resources about the United States available to foreign publics at large.\u00a0 Since August 2013, the Corner has hosted 35 programs and engaged more than 1500 people.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires Lisa Johnson and Acting President of The College of The Bahamas Dr. Carey-Baines were on hand for the celebration and\u00a0 both gave remarks promoting the friendship and partnership between the United States and The Bahamas.\u00a0 Charg\u00e9 Johnson emphasized her hope to increase the number of visitors to the Corner and form more partnerships to develop new programs.\u00a0 Acting President Carey-Baines expressed her gratitude for the collaboration between the U.S. Embassy and The College of The Bahamas in establishing the American Corner, and mentioned her aspiration to double the amount of programs offered in the coming year.<\/p>\n<p>American Corner Nassau, the first in The Bahamas, is a partnership between the U.S. Embassy\u2019s Public Affairs Section and the College of The Bahamas established one year ago.\u00a0 It provides access to current and reliable information about the United States via book collections, the Internet, and through local programming to the general public.\u00a0 It is also a place for cultural lectures, discussion forums and informational sessions.<\/p>\n<p>The Corner aims to maintain an open dialogue on issues of mutual concern and build bridges of understanding between Americans and Bahamians.\u00a0 Programs over the last year have covered a broad array of topics including youth empowerment, gender-based violence, education in the United States, strategic planning for civil society, and citizen security.<\/p>\n<p>There are more than 450 American Corners around the world that help individuals expand their general knowledge and understand more about American society, culture and values by providing a place for people to come together, bridge differences, highlight commonalities, and develop new ideas to help their communities and countries alike.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Embassy, Nassau<br \/>\nCaptions:<br \/>\nThe U.S. Embassy Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires Lisa Johnson gives remarks at the first year anniversary of American Corner Nassau.<\/p>\n<p>Guests attend the first year anniversary of American Corner Nassau located at the Harry C.
