{"id":79949,"date":"2014-09-17T10:40:40","date_gmt":"2014-09-17T14:40:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=79949"},"modified":"2014-09-18T08:19:33","modified_gmt":"2014-09-18T12:19:33","slug":"us-embassy-hosts-three-day-conference-on-womens-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2014\/09\/us-embassy-hosts-three-day-conference-on-womens-leadership","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Embassy Hosts Three-Day Conference on Women\u2019s Leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-79952\" alt=\"conference-1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/conference-1.jpg\" width=\"550\" height=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On September 10-12, 2014, the Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy Nassau hosted a three-day conference focused on \u201cAchieving Social Equity: Empowering Women and Youth Politically, Socially, and Economically\u201d in Nassau with Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever as the invited speaker.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jones-DeWeever has held positions in a variety of highly esteemed organizations and governmental institutions throughout the United States.\u00a0 Most recently she served as the Executive Director of the National Council of Negro Women where she led a new organizational push towards policy action and impact.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-79953\" alt=\"conference-2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/conference-2.jpg\" width=\"550\" height=\"325\" \/><br \/>\nDr. Jones DeWeever\u2019s presentations included a roundtable discussion with partners of the Ministry of Social Services\u2019 Women\u2019s Bureau and senior level women in civil society that focused on overcoming obstacles to women\u2019s participation in political leadership.\u00a0 She also led discussions on advancing women in leadership with entrepreneurs, business leaders and activists.\u00a0 Dr. Jones-DeWeever also engaged College of The Bahamas students, youth leaders and female student high achievers from public and private high schools from New Providence, Grand Bahama, Andros, Eleuthera and the Berry Islands in interactive sessions on effective leadership and developing characteristics of an exceptional leader.<\/p>\n<p>The highlight of the conference was a luncheon at Balmoral for influential women leaders hosted by U.S. Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires Lisa Johnson.\u00a0 Among the invited guests were women parliamentarians including the Minister of Transport and Aviation, The Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin and Minister of Social Services and Community Development, The Hon.
