A senior government official has confirmed that the Paradise Island Harbour Resort is in negotiations with a business entity with the intent of being sold.<\/p>\n
The source, who spoke to The Nassau Guardian on condition of anonymity yesterday, was not in a position, however, to name the entity the hotel is reportedly in negotiations with.<\/p>\n
The staff of the hotel are reportedly concerned about whether they would receive redundancy payments in a timely fashion, like the workers at the Royal Oasis Hotel in Freeport, Grand Bahama, following the sale.<\/p>\n
The source said when the hotel is sold, management plans to retain the majority of the staff.<\/p>\n
Reportedly, the 200 employees at the resort were shocked when they learned that the resort’s owner, Genwood Paradise Ltd., had entered into a sales agreement with Benisasia Investment and Properties Ltd.<\/p>\n
According to a letter to staff dated April 12, 2011 from Scott Cornelius, the company’s regional director and general manger, the resort should be sold by May 12.<\/p>\n
Scott informed employees that Genwood would cease doing business once the sale is completed and as a result their services with the company would also come to an end.<\/p>\n
Bahamas as Hotel Catering and Allied Workers Union Secretary General Darrin Woods said the union has written to the attorneys of the new owners and requested a meeting in an effort to ascertain exactly how the sale would impact its members.<\/p>\n
“We are just waiting to hear from them. The staff want to know what is happening to them. They don’t know whether they would be retained or let go,” he said.<\/p>\n
