A music education programme which has helped children from poor socio-economic backgrounds in Venezuela for over three decades is coming to the Bahamas to assist youngsters in one of New Providence’s more troubled communities.<\/p>\n
El Sistema – originally called Social Action for Music – has organised over 125 youth orchestras, 30 symphony orchestras and has helped over 250,000 children, mostly from poor neighborhoods, learn to play a musical instrument.<\/p>\n
The Bahamas Music Conservatory, in coordination with the government, is bringing four tutors from the ‘El Sistema’ programme in Venezuela to the Bahamas to launch ‘El Sistema Bahamas’.<\/p>\n
‘El Sistema Bahamas’ will initially focus on the young people of Nassau Village.<\/p>\n
