{"id":8521,"date":"2011-05-12T02:39:43","date_gmt":"2011-05-12T06:39:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=8521"},"modified":"2011-05-12T11:01:18","modified_gmt":"2011-05-12T15:01:18","slug":"we-are-deeply-saddened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2011\/05\/we-are-deeply-saddened","title":{"rendered":"We Are Deeply Saddened&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_8527\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8527\" style=\"width: 246px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8527  \" style=\"margin-left: 8px; margin-right: 8px;\" title=\"jackson-burnside\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/jackson-burnside1-e1305212412348.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"246\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/jackson-burnside1-e1305212412348.jpg 439w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/jackson-burnside1-e1305212412348-150x118.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/jackson-burnside1-e1305212412348-250x198.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 246px) 100vw, 246px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8527\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jackson Burnside<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We Are Deeply Saddened&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>With deep regret, today we learned of the passing of Jackson Burnside,  an incredible Bahamian whose imprint on The Bahamas, our people, and our  industry has been and will continue to be immeasurable.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson has been one of the key proponents and motivators for many years  behind the revitalization of historic downtown Nassau, working with the  Ministry of Tourism, the Government of The Bahamas, the Nassau Tourism  Development Board, the Downtown Nassau Partnership, BHA and others  towards a number of landmark improvement initiatives which are now  coming together.\u00a0 In 1999 he authored the Historic Nassau Study, a  document which captured the richness of the city and challenged us all  to imagine what it could be, not just for tourists, but as well for each  of us who live in The Bahamas.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the movement has gathered a momentum of its own, and the spirit  and guiding hand of Jackson will continue to influence this major  initiative.<\/p>\n<p>His architecture signature can be seen in the likes of Marina Village at  Atlantis, where the essence of Bahamian design is showcased.\u00a0 He&#8217;s been  the voice of Junkanoo, challenging the nation to recognize the power of  this national celebration in building character, community and drawing  upon the incredible creativity, teamwork and artistry of the Bahamian  people.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson was equally at ease talking to the guys in the shack or the  likes of Sol Kerzner.\u00a0 Personally, his counsel and advise has been  invaluable in helping me and others to understand what we have and what  we can be.<\/p>\n<p>Just over a month ago Jackson met with several of us in BHA&#8217;s office to  discuss next planning steps for putting in place a major beautification  initiative for the city following the completion of significant  infrastructure works which the Government has commenced.\u00a0 His enthusiasm  and positive outlook was and is contagious.<\/p>\n<p>We will miss his advice, his challenge to us, his humour and  humanity&#8230;.and each of us in The Bahamas, whether we know it or not,  are enriched having had Jackson Burnside walk amongst us.<\/p>\n<p>The Bahamas Hotel Association salutes one of our finest and offers its deepest condolences to Jackson&#8217;s family.<\/p>\n<p>Frank J.
