{"id":8530,"date":"2011-05-12T21:37:44","date_gmt":"2011-05-13T01:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=8530"},"modified":"2011-05-12T21:37:44","modified_gmt":"2011-05-13T01:37:44","slug":"mailboats-back-in-operation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2011\/05\/mailboats-back-in-operation","title":{"rendered":"Mailboats Back In Operation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nassau, The Bahamas \u2013 Mailboat owners and operators have agreed to resume operations to the Family Islands after accepting The Bahamas Government\u2019s proposal to reduce sailing times to three times per month or once every 10 days.<\/p>\n<p>A large number of the owners and operators suspended inter-island operations earlier this week as a result of rising diesel prices. The Government subsidises mailboats to transport goods to the Family Islands.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Public Works and Transport, the Hon. Neko C. Grant met with some 17 representatives of the Mailboat Owners and Operators Association on Wednesday. A press conference followed the meeting. Senior officials included Permanent Secretary Colin Higgs and Undersecretary Elizabeth Keju.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is an amount budgeted each year for mailboat subsidy but because of financial challenges we are experiencing we are not able to revise it.
