NEW YORK, NY \u2013 The streets of New York City\u2019s fabled Harlem suburb \u2013 a mecca for jazz and African American culture \u2013 rang with the sounds of Bahamian music, as the St. Anne\u2019s School Choir presented a concert entitled \u201cBahamian Style\u201d at the Harlem School for the Arts.<\/p>\n

While in New York, the choir \u2013 led by Karrolann L. Jervis, Darrell Hurston and Bridgette Barrett \u2013 paid a courtesy call on Bahamas Consul General to New York Dr. Rhonda Chipman-Johnson, who was proud of their performance and accomplishments.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey really did a fantastic job up here,\u201d Dr. Chipman-Johnson enthused.<\/p>\n

The choir toured various sites including the Rockefeller Plaza, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and the Museums of Modern Art and Natural History.\u00a0 Choir members also had the opportunity to view the Broadway Show \u201cThe Phantom of the Opera\u201d.<\/p>\n

The choir which consists of a total of 70 persons from grades 7 \u2013 12, boasts of being one of the leading High School choirs in the country.\u00a0 In 2004, the choir recorded a compact disc entitled \u201cBy The Grace Of God\u201d the school\u2019s motto, and out of this recording came the nomination for the People\u2019s Choice Cacique Award for the song \u201cIt Ain\u2019 Ova\u201d written by Mr. Darrell Hurston and led by KB.\u00a0 The choir has also won a number of song competitions and National Arts Festivals.<\/p>\n

As ambassadors for St. Anne\u2019s School, the choir has performed at various government and private functions, and in the past has travelled to Eleuthera, Atlanta GA, and Miami FL.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
