{"id":93628,"date":"2014-12-17T08:00:11","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T13:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=93628"},"modified":"2014-12-17T08:00:11","modified_gmt":"2014-12-17T13:00:11","slug":"ymca-grand-bahama-adds-tennis-to-their-facilities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2014\/12\/ymca-grand-bahama-adds-tennis-to-their-facilities","title":{"rendered":"YMCA Grand Bahama Adds Tennis To Their Facilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-93629\" alt=\"ymca-grand-bahama-tennis\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/ymca-grand-bahama-tennis.jpg\" width=\"550\" height=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Freeport, Grand Bahama \u2013 \u201cThank you, thank you, thank you\u201d were the words expressed by Sir Jack Hayward as the Grand Bahama Port Authority Honourary Chairman and YMCA Executive Board member officially opened the YMCA tennis courts in Grand Bahama on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-93630\" alt=\"ymca-grand-bahama-tennis-2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/ymca-grand-bahama-tennis-2.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/>The four International Tennis Federation regulated courts are now open to the public. \u201cIt really is unbelievable,\u201d said Sir Jack. \u201cI can\u2019t thank you enough for your generosity.\u00a0 The way you raised the money to put this together\u2026I am overwhelmed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sir Jack was joined at the event by Mrs. Patti Bloom, Henry St. George, Vice-President of the GBPA, YMCA Board Members, the local business community representatives and Karon Pinder-Johnson, YMCA Manager and staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is exactly what we needed,\u201d said Godfrey \u2018Gully\u201d Bowe well known veteran tennis coach, who will run the courts along with Larikah Russell. \u201cWe know that we don\u2019t have any proper tennis facilities here, so this is going to boost our sport!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gully went on to add that he and his co-coach, Russell, will be working on establishing a junior programme at the YMCA courts, which he feels is another great avenue for kids for possible further education and travel.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the event was Kris Lehmkuhl, who helped plan and organize the new facilities. He has also been intricately responsible for the establishment and the running of the YMCA SOS (Swim for Ocean Survival) program for the last 5 years.\u00a0 \u201cThese courts give residents of all ages a new way to interact with one another. It\u2019s a game for all ages and brings people together in a vibrant and healthy atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Traveling from Nassau for the event was Derron Donaldson, immediate past president of The Bahama Lawn Tennis Association (BTLA) and Bahamas Olympic Committee Vice President. Donaldson, a tennis pro himself, noted, \u201cTennis has been stagnant in Freeport for a long time. During my presidency we struggled due to funding, however now with Kris, Craig and the Port\u2019s help we hope to revitalize our sport here.
