{"id":9416,"date":"2011-06-15T11:26:25","date_gmt":"2011-06-15T15:26:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=9416"},"modified":"2011-06-15T11:26:25","modified_gmt":"2011-06-15T15:26:25","slug":"more-government-money-stolen-in-acklins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2011\/06\/more-government-money-stolen-in-acklins","title":{"rendered":"More Government Money Stolen in Acklins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the second time in less than a year, a substantial amount of money was stolen from the Administrator&#8217;s office in Acklins.<\/p>\n<p>Administrator Gregory Knowles told a local paper that the money was public funds sent by central government to pay salaries and cover public expenses on the remote island.<\/p>\n<p>A team of CDU investigators are headed to Acklins to investigate the weekend burglary.<\/p>\n<p>While Mr Knowles could not immediately confirm the amount of money that was in the safe, it is estimated that there was at least $100,000 in it.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that the safe was cemented to the floor did not deter the thieves from taking it.<\/p>\n<p>There is no alarm system in the building and no police guard.<\/p>\n<p>Last September, Mr Knowles and his teen-age son were allegedly forced by gunmen to open the safe and were robbed of over $200,000.
