{"id":9449,"date":"2011-06-15T20:38:48","date_gmt":"2011-06-16T00:38:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=9449"},"modified":"2011-06-15T20:38:48","modified_gmt":"2011-06-16T00:38:48","slug":"crooks-have-a-friend-in-the-bahamas-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2011\/06\/crooks-have-a-friend-in-the-bahamas-government","title":{"rendered":"Crooks Have a Friend in the Bahamas Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are looking for the reason that crime is out of control in the Bahamas, you need look no further than the Government of The Bahamas.<\/p>\n<p>The Bahamas government is a crook&#8217;s best friend.<\/p>\n<p>When police busted a &#8220;major&#8221; stolen vehicle ring operating out of the Road Traffic department, police bragged that they had caught the &#8220;mastermind&#8221; of the million-dollar criminal operation.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, police and government officials refused to name the individual.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Why is it that a destitute man who steals $20 in food from a grocery store, to feed his starving kids, gets his name in the newspaper and is forced to make a &#8220;perp walk&#8221; into court, yet the &#8220;mastermind&#8221; of a million-dollar fraud is protected by the police and the government?<\/p>\n<p>Police also apparently have identified the scum who posted pictures online of a woman who had been brutally murdered.<\/p>\n<p>Again, the police and the government are protecting that individual and refuse to name them publicly.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Simeon Hall, of New Covenant Baptist Church, sent a letter to the head of police and copies to the attorney general and National Security Minister regarding the incident.<\/p>\n<p>All Minister Turnquest would say, after acknowledging receipt of the letter, is that the culprit had been &#8220;dealt with&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Say what?<\/p>\n<p>Who is this person and how have they been dealt with?<\/p>\n<p>Unless this is a a matter of national security, the good people of the Bahamas, the people who pay the Police Commissioner and Mr Turnquest&#8217;s generous salaries, have a right to know.<\/p>\n<p>BTW: Where is that Freedom of Information Act, Mr Ingraham?<\/p>\n<p>When pressed on the matter, Turnquest told a reporter that he was &#8220;not prepared to say anymore than that at this stage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Attempts by the Tribune to contact Police Commissioner Ellison Greenslade for further information were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Turnquest admitted that police had determined that there was a leak but refused to share that information with the public.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Why do the Police Commissioner and the Minister of National Security protect criminals?
