If you are looking for the reason that crime is out of control in the Bahamas, you need look no further than the Government of The Bahamas.<\/p>\n
The Bahamas government is a crook’s best friend.<\/p>\n
When police busted a “major” stolen vehicle ring operating out of the Road Traffic department, police bragged that they had caught the “mastermind” of the million-dollar criminal operation.<\/p>\n
Yet, police and government officials refused to name the individual.<\/p>\n
Why?<\/p>\n
Why is it that a destitute man who steals $20 in food from a grocery store, to feed his starving kids, gets his name in the newspaper and is forced to make a “perp walk” into court, yet the “mastermind” of a million-dollar fraud is protected by the police and the government?<\/p>\n
Police also apparently have identified the scum who posted pictures online of a woman who had been brutally murdered.<\/p>\n
Again, the police and the government are protecting that individual and refuse to name them publicly.<\/p>\n
Bishop Simeon Hall, of New Covenant Baptist Church, sent a letter to the head of police and copies to the attorney general and National Security Minister regarding the incident.<\/p>\n
All Minister Turnquest would say, after acknowledging receipt of the letter, is that the culprit had been “dealt with”.<\/p>\n
Say what?<\/p>\n
Who is this person and how have they been dealt with?<\/p>\n
Unless this is a a matter of national security, the good people of the Bahamas, the people who pay the Police Commissioner and Mr Turnquest’s generous salaries, have a right to know.<\/p>\n
BTW: Where is that Freedom of Information Act, Mr Ingraham?<\/p>\n
When pressed on the matter, Turnquest told a reporter that he was “not prepared to say anymore than that at this stage.”<\/p>\n
Attempts by the Tribune to contact Police Commissioner Ellison Greenslade for further information were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n
Mr. Turnquest admitted that police had determined that there was a leak but refused to share that information with the public.<\/p>\n
Why?<\/p>\n
Why do the Police Commissioner and the Minister of National Security protect criminals? Is it because the crooks are their friends, or are policemen?\u00a0 Are they embarassed by that?<\/p>\n
When the gruesome photos surfaced online two months ago and were sent out by email, the family of the 42-year-old victim were outraged and immediately demanded accountability from the police, questioning the force’s internal security, reported the Tribune.<\/p>\n
Well, they never received the accountability they demanded, did they?<\/p>\n
