Hong Kong, China \u2013 Strengthening its economic presence in Asia, The Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) formally presented its credentials to a highly influential Chinese audience for the first time.
\nContacts with banks, finance houses, ship owners, and shipping associations has the BMA now planning several promotional opportunities in the Far East.<\/p>\n

On June 13, the BMA sent a top-level team to Beijing and Hong Kong to meet senior Chinese officials in the Ministry of Transport.\u00a0 These leaders have responsibility for maritime affairs and key commercial players in China\u2019s maritime industry.\u00a0 The delegation remained in China until June 17.<\/p>\n

The visit allowed maritime parties to engage in fostering a relationship between The Bahamas, which has one of the world\u2019s largest ship registries, and China, which is a major shipbuilding nation.\u00a0 This meeting promotes and establishes a permanent Bahamian presence in China.<\/p>\n

Led by Ian Fair, BMA\u2019s chairman, the delegation included Peter John Goulandris, deputy chairman; Commodore Davy Rolle, managing director (London) and Malcolm Keast, regional director (Hong Kong).<\/p>\n
