We are planning a trip Bahamas in June. We are trying to decide between Radisson Cable Beach Resort and the Riu Paradise Island. Just wondering which resort is better/nicer beach etc? I hear that Riu is close to the Atlantis which makes it easy to visit however after reading some of the other questions you can not see all of the Atlantis without staying there is this true? I am interested in seeing the predator tunnel...?

The Radisson Resort on Cable Beach is nice. The RUI is a more upscale hotel, also more expensive.

Staying at either one will not allow you to visit the Predator tunnel at Atlantis. You either have to stay at Atlantis (not a bad idea, by the way) or Comfort Suites, across the street. Guests at Comfort Suites get full privileges at Atlantis.

Since we are going in June do you think that we can get a "day pass" for the atlantis facilities?
I believe that June is off season right?

Another question do you know which restaurant in the Atlanis has tables next to the aquarium? I seen it in an ad for the Atlantis it looks beautiful!!

There are no day passes available at Atlantis, although, they sell off the unused rooms as day rooms for about $200 a room. * this allows up to 4 people access to the facilities. This is done on a first come - first serve - same day basis.
June is really not off season, since Atlantis (bahamas) is a family destination, as long as school is out, it's packed.
The restaurant you are looking for is the Great Hall of Waters.

You can get a pass for $29 to view the DIGS, not sure if the predator tunnel is part of that tour.

Riu is brand newly renovated if you are looking for the nicer of the 2 hotels and Riu is also an all inclusive, not sure of service but I do know it sits on a beautiful strech of ocean. You can go in the Atlantis casino shops and restaurants just not on the back where the ocean is, but staying at Riu you are located on the same beach, however comfort suites is not on beach it is right across the street and offers Full acesess to the Atlantis, beach , pools and water sports and the Dig which is a beautiful sea quarium, Have fun whatever you choose, One last thing if you decide to stay on paradise island and want to go into town for the afternoon you can catch a ferry boat for $3 per person each way, bout the same or a couple dollars less than cab and nice view. From 9am to 6pm.

What is the best way to get from the Nassau airport to the Riu? Also, can Riu guests access the Atlantis casino?

Pretty much the only way to get from the Nassau Airport to the RIU on Paradise Island is by cab. I think it runs about $27.00.

Everyone (over 18) can access the Atlantis Casino.

The rooms are equipped with liquor dispensers, beer, pop and water but no coffee maker. They are exceptionally clean with the convenience of a small outdoor balcony. The buffet serves a variety of good food with theme night dinners. There are 3 restaurants you can book separately. (all included) but you have to start lining up early (8:15 am)the day of booking. All three serve up delicious meals. The beach area is long but the pool is nothing fancy. (rectangle) The social director and his staff, the wait staff, bartenders and janitors are very helpful and friendly but the front desk provides very little service. As well, the tour desks are not very helpful (if you can even find someone there). They are very strict with their rules and they make it clear that they will not bend them. Most disappointing were the elevator waiting times because of strict 12 o'clock checkouts and trying to make phone calls. At checkout, your luggage will not be locked away safely. They are left out in the hallway where everyone has easy access to them. There are only 2 shops in the resort. One is a diamond store and the other is a variety type store. There is also a little shop on the beach but there's not much to choose from there.
Making a phone call is impossible. Do not buy phone cards thinking it can get you a phone line out. You have to give them your credit card with a $250 hold and only then will they activate your phone for local or long distance calling. Even with your credit card deposit, you can not make collect calls or use your phone card. You are limited to make direct calls which will be charged to your room. Don't bother trying to get someone at the front desk to answer the phone. You could be on your last breath, calling at the mercy of your life and nobody will answer.
They do have internet service for a small fee(near main lobby) but again, it is not available at convenient times. If you're looking for some fun in the evenings, you'll have no choice but to leave the resort. The lounge at the Riu has live music but don't expect lively entertainment. The social director does a good job with a variety of stage shows and/or games with audience participation but the party stops there. The size of the dance floor tells all. (very limited space for dancing) The lounge sitting area is very big and comfortable but it doesn't stay open very late. When the band starts playing, you'll notice a lot of people leaving to seek fun entertainment off the resort.

They don't have a lot of entryways to the pool or beach area and neither do they have a dining patio to sit around at night once the buffet is closed.

If you are looking for a nice, clean place to stay with a quiet atmosphere and good food, then you'll enjoy it. If you're wanting a place that will entertain you from morning until after midnight, then I wouldn't suggest the Riu. As well, if you're wanting to be pampered with good service, then this is definately not the place.

Hope this helps

The best way to call back to the US is to use the ATT special toll-free number (published in all the tourist guides) or buy a Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) "Hello" phone card from almost any retailer. They come in $3, $5 and $10 (and even higher) denominations. You can then phone home from any pay phone.

DO NOT use the phone in your hotel room. It is an OUTRAGEOUS amount per minute. Local calls are, like, $3 per minute, I can't even imagine what long distance calls are.
