We're leaving Sunday, last minute question. Should I get travelers checks? Will I have any problem cashing them or should I depend on cash & credit cards? Are credit cards readily accepted?

Travelers checks are always recommended for your protection. They are accepted almost everywhere, as are credit cards and, of course, cash. :)

I (and my wife and two young teens) are going to Atlantis for a week in June 05, should I go to the trouble of trying to get local currency beforehand while in Fla, for downtown shopping, etc.? Will I save any money on the currency exchange rate?

It sounds better to eat on your own (not on their meal plans), both at Atlantis and off hotel grounds. That way I will eat well and save money-is this true? What are your favorite restaurants?

The exchange rate is even. You can pay for things in US dollars, Bahamian dollars or even a combination.

There are so many great restaurants on Paradise Island and in Nassau that it's hard to choose favourites.

Try visiting the Bahamas Restaurants page on Bahamas-Travel.info or the Nassau/New Providence Islands Restaurants Guide.
