We are staying at the WestWind II in August(just west of the Wyndham) and would like to snorkel on our own. Is there any snorkelling nearby off the beach. I heard Love Beach is wonderful. Do we just take a jitney to get there and walk in? Any suggestions, would be appreciated. We are on a tight budget and can't really swing dive companies' rates. (Unless really low budget}Many Thanks in advance.

You could jitney to Love Beach or to Cable Beach in the opposite direction.

The problem with snorkeling from the beach is that there is little to see. The beautiful, clear shallow water is great but all the real snorkel action is further offshore.

Really, truly, the best way to go would be one of the half-day snorkel excursions. Well worth the small charge. The prices vary from $35 to $50, include lunch and will take you much further out, which will greatly enhance your snorkeling experience.

Most of the resorts on Cable Beach have private beaches, so you may not gain access to these beaches unless you're staying there. The Radisson Cable Beach Resort has a private roped-off beach that is very good for snorkling. There are three coral reefs in the beach area that makes home for several colorful tropical fish varieties. The water is clear, clean, still and warm. Happy snorkling!

All of Cable Beach, up to the high water mark, is public property. The ropes are to stop jet skiers from invading the public swimming area. There are public access points to get onto the beach and you can snorkel the entire three mile length.
