Is it true that they are going to close/rebuild the Radisson? If so, what is the timeframe for remodeling? I stayed there in December and it was the best! Leonardo, Raphael and the rest of the staff were GREAT! I hope they will still be there as I am looking for a repeat fun time.

The Radisson is now part of the Cable Beach Resort complex. The new owners, indeed, have ambitious plans for the hotel. Not even sure if it will remain a Radisson.

They plan to blow the place up and rebuild it from the ground up. Not sure what their schedule is. I imagine they will accommodate guests in one of their other hotels while they are reconstructing that one.

Meanwhile, they have pretty much retained all the original staff. So, the people you mentioned will most likely still be around when the dust settles, sometime in 2010.

So, if I went in January 2006 it would still be the same Radisson as it was in 2005?

No way Jose, er, Lorraine that is. The place blows! I went there in August (see my post on Radisson versus Breezes in this forum) and it totally sucked. Luckily my travel agent refunded me about a grand from my trip. Things aint the way they used to be; the Radisson was sold and the new owners aren't investing any time or money to maintain the place. They're going to knock it down soon anyway. Hey, Aruba sounds nice.

Hi Rick, thanks for your post. I am sorry you did not enjoy your visit to The Bahamas.

While it is true the Radisson let their standards slip, it was because it was a government-owned hotel and the government had financial difficulties (don't all governments). :)

I think that is precisely why the government nicely co-oerced hotelier Phillip Ruffin to sell the Marriott (next door) so they could sell the whole kit-and-kaboodle to Baha Mar, who has some pretty ambitious plans for the entire Cable Beach strip.

Baha Mar is revamping the casino and spending millions, right now, refurbushing the hotels as they prepare to, yes - blow them up - and rebuild the entire Cable Beach strip as one of the largest and most extravagant tourist destinations anywhere.

I am not trying to sound like an advertisement here, but it is a pretty big deal and should be good for the Bahamas overall.

They have a new Jack Nicholas golf course planned and they recently inked deals with US-based Starwood hotels and Harrah's (the owners of Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas), who will be managing the hotels and casino respectively.

Another good sign, is the importance the Baha Mar group places on service quality, something that had also slipped at the former Radisson. They are in the process of retraining the entire staff.

So, big changes are underway and in the meantime, the Cable Beach Resorts (as they are now called) are offering tremendous vacation specials. While the accommodations may not be as spacious and luxurious as those to come, the beach is still 3000 feet of beautiful white sand, the water is still delightfully warm and crystal clear... and it is all only a few steps from the back door of the hotel. ;)

UPDATE!!

An article in this morning's Bahamas news says that Baha Mar is increasing the refurbishment budget for the Raddison, since it will be here for another year or two.

They must have read this thread. :)

Thanks for the input. Rick, sorry to hear you trip to the Bahamas was a downer. I had such a great time only months before. Maybe the staff will be "retrained" by January (I hope they retrain back to the way they were when I was there). Anyway, Aruba?

I honestly would not worry about it. Baha Mar is doing a fantastic job and will take great care of you.

During the entire reconstruction they will be making the process as painless on guests as possible.

And the construction won't really kick-in until 2007.

Construction is not beginning in 2007. It is beginning now! I had several rooms booked for my family and just received a phone call on February 9 that half of the resort will be under construction during June. Only one restaurant and a buffet will be available! I am in the process of looking for another all-inclusive in the Bahamas since we already purchased our nonrefundable airfare. I better not have a problem getting a refund since when I booked, last May, there was no word of possible construction! Taking suggestions for alternative all-inclusives...

Really sad to hear they started already. I wanted to go to the Radisson in March. Any idea on what will be in it's place? Similar all-inclusive? Any timeframe on completion of reconstruction?

Can anyone help?

I am not sure when construction will begin. I received a phone call that rooms in one entire wing will definitely be under construction in June (restaurants to begin construction in July). I was told they would not be opening all the restaurants in June because they will not have a full staff working. They do not seem very eager to give out information. I would call and check. Ask for a manager if necessary. Good luck!

Just got back from a long weekend at the Radisson. The east wing on our floor (7th) was closed but it didn't interfere with our trip at all. Our room was very clean, the view was awesome, and the staff was very friendly. We did dine at Avacados and The Islands (found out Amici was closed on Sundays) and also at the Bimini buffet. The food for the most part was good. The service at The Islands was a little slow. As for the hotel itself, yes there are some areas that need to be "touched up" and some that are showing a little wear but nothing that stopped us from enjoying ourselves. As I mentioned before, the staff was very freindly and they went out of their way to ss if we needed anything. We were told that the 3 hotels will be remodeled to form a mega complex that will rival The Atlantis. All in all - I would recomend the Radisson based on our experience.

Since construction has already begun at the Radisson, any chance of finding out if it will be completed by December? Will it stil be an all-inclusive resort?
