Hi,
I'm heading to nassau for a day pretty soon and I was wondering if there are any good really local places to get a beer and a decent meal? I'm not really down with a big fancy expensive resteraunt, I'm lookin for a nice small native runned place that serves good beer/food cheap. Cleanliness is not that big of a deal, i'm lookin for the experience. Please help me! :)

We were in Nassau Feb 2004 for a business conference. Had an arranged dinner at a wonderful restaurant. Going to Nassau again on our own and would love to eat there again. I think it was french and had a fountain by the entrance. I remember the WONDERFUL SOUFFLES for dessert - which took some time to make and we ordered at the beginning of the meal. Anyone know this place?

My husband and I are going to Nassau the last week of May. Is there any place a person can eat for under $20 a person that is desent or do you have to buy groceries and prepare your own?

On my trip to the bahamas, I couldn't believe how expensive food was. One resteraunt that was awesome, good food good atmosphere great service, (very friendly) clean and reasonably priced. The place is called "Cafe Jonny Canoes" they have great burgers, they even grill the bun, their grilled cheeses are also great, but make sure you get the loaded cheese fries, they are the best.

Thank you for the info on Cafe Jonny Canoes. I have made a note. I love hamburgers and fries. My husband is more difficult. He likes "seafood" like Long John Silvers or Captain D's or Chinese food. Is there anything similar if not any good seafood that would be under $20 a person? What about an affordable "steak house or ribs"? I love steak but my husband doesn't, he always gets ribs. Does anyone know any where you can find this kind of dinner under $30 or $40 each?
Also - where is the most affordable place to buy "souvenirs" that is near cable beach or paradise island?
1 Last Question - where is the best "dance club" with a party atmosphere?

Cafe Johhny Canoe, located on Bay Street on the Cable Beach strip, also has excellent ribs.

Don't forget to leave room for the Brownie Cake Delight dessert. A home-made brownie covered with vanilla ice cream and fudge sauce. :)

Another nice, moderately priced, place to eat out on Cable Beach is the Olde Towne Oyster Bar at Sandypoint. Besides oysters, they make a great Angus burger and very good Grouper fingers.

Across from Johnny Canoes (and down a hundred yards) is the Cable Beach Straw Market where you can find a variety of souveniers.

In the Raddison hotel (now part of Bahamar's Cable Beach hotels group) there are two night clubs.

Just down Bay Street is the Blue Note Lounge, another popular club.

We just got back after a weeks vacation on Cable Beach. Had a blast and can't wait to go again. By the time we got ready to leave and go home I learned a lot about the cost of food & where to eat & not to eat. Johnny Canoes has awesome food and ambiance but the cost is high. I think the best place to go is Daddy O's. Sbaro's has excellent foot but the cost for breakfast or dinner is "extremly" high. Go to Domino's for 1/3 the cost. We always go to Senior Frogs and Hard Rock Cafe on every vacation we take. The cost in Nassau is double what we have paid in the states. We had a blast though and yes can't wait to go back. I was told by a native there is a BIG grocery store called Winn Dixie and you can buy things there at 1/2 the price you will pay anywhere else on the island. Avoid the grocery store in the center of down town near the pier. Winn Dixie is not down town. Its probably east of town. I will go there next time & get a cooler and buys six packs. You will pay the same price at the grocery store that is down town as you pay at any of the convenience stores.

You should try Captain Vinny's for great local fare. It's located near the Straw Market.

Columbus Tavern Restaurant on Paradise Island has delicious seafood & steak. Their seafood is always fresh & they will cook it anyway you like it. The restaurant overlooks the waterfront which is beautiful at night.
