Ian Fair Joins Butterfield Bank

Reporting to Graham Brooks, Chairman, Butterfield Bank (Bahamas) Limited, Mr. Fair will help the Group continue to expand its international Private Banking and Wealth Management business. He will play a significant role in the Group’s relationships with major clients, the bank said in a statement.

Mr. Fair is a prominent member of Nassau’s financial services community and brings a wealth of experience to his new role, the statement said. He has been involved in offshore trust and private banking for over 40 years, the last 37 of those from a Bahamas base.

“We are very pleased to welcome a person of Ian’s eminence to the Butterfield Bank Group,” Mr. Brooks said. “We continue to grow and enhance our range of wealth management services and Ian brings with him an unparalleled depth of knowledge, particularly on the international aspects of wealth management and planning. His proven abilities and skills are a very positive addition to the Butterfield Bank Group, and to our senior management team.”

Before joining the Butterfield Bank Group, Mr. Fair worked for National Westminster Bank and then in The Bahamas at Scotiatrust and Deltec Panamerica. He was principal for 16 years in The Bahamas’ operation of MeesPierson.

Mr. Fair remains committed to the development of the finance industry in The Bahamas, the statement said. He was the Founding Chairman of The Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) and is the current Chairman of The Bahamas International Securities Exchange (BISX) and The International Trust Companies Association (ITCA).οΎ  His involvement in civic and charitable concerns is extensive, both in The Bahamas and elsewhere. The Clifton Heritage Authority, The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, The Governor General’s Youth Award and The Living Oceans Foundation have all benefited from his support. He and his wife of 35 years, Sylvia, have three daughters.
