Another fire in The Mudd

MARSH HARBOUR οΎ— Another fire broke out in the Haitian village known as The Mudd in Abaco on Monday, but quick thinking by a bystander and the rapid response of the Fire Department prevented it from being as disastrous as the fire that rampaged through The Mudd earlier this year.

Around 10:30 p.m. Jonathan Curr noticed fire coming from a house owned by Merilien and Darlene Bazile and quickly called 911.

Bazile had left his 10-year-old daughter home when he went to pick up his wife, who works at Curly Tails at the Conch Inn, when the fire was believed to have started in the bedroom of the house.

“I received a call on my cellphone and was told that there was a fire in the Mudd. I thought it was close to my house, but never thought it was actually my house that was on fire,” said Bazile, obviously still in shock.

Bazile and his wife rushed home and discovered that their house was the one on fire.

Due to the quick thinking and action of several individuals and the hard-working men at the fire department, the fire was contained to that one single home. This was a great feat as there were several houses that were extremely close to the one that caught on fire.

“Thank God for the fair weather because it was not as windy as it was during the last fire that took place in the Mudd earlier this year,” one resident said. “The outcome could have been much worse! No one was hurt, and the structure is still standing with only a few broken windows and water damage occurring in the home.
