Operators in the country's water sport industry have claimed that "negative" media publicity surrounding their profession is "unfair."
Speaking to the Nassau Guardian yesterday, Paradise Island water sport operators insisted that they were outraged at recent media reports, which, they said cast a dark cloud over their business.
"I think the negative publicity is very wrong because what we do over here is provide a service for our tourists," said a jet ski operator, who spoke only on condition of anonymity. "Sometimes we are going to have blunders because we all make mistakes but you know, as they say, we can do a hundred rights but the one wrong you do could overthrow the 100 right things you did."
According to the operators, careful consideration is given to the safety of their customers on a daily basis. "We like to ensure the safety of our patrons despite what media reports indicate," said a Cabbage Beach jet ski operator. "We have them sign a waiver and they must be 18 or older to operate the jet ski. They also have to agree to wear a life jacket at all times and agree to stay away from swimming areas while they are on the jet ski."
