Speed Kills, Especially When Drinking and Driving

Police arrived on the scene to find the forest green Toyota Windom upside down and wedged in between two cedar trees situated directly in front of the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant, after receiving an anonymous call at 4:40a.m.

Superintendent in charge of the Police Road Traffic Division, Burkie Wright, said the unidentified men appeared to be in their late teens and were reportedly travelling westward, when the accident occurred.

“It appears as if the vehicle came out of the southern lane and struck the tree,” said Supt. Wright. “Looking at this car…it amazes me how the other person survived this crash.”

Supt. Wright said it appeared that the man who died, the driver, had received mostly head injuries, while the specific injuries of the passenger are still unknown.

Up to press time last night, the said passenger remained in serious condition at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Although Supt. Wright could not say how fast the car was travelling, he confirmed the driver thereof was definitely not “cruising” before the crash happened.

Supt. Wright appealed to the young men of the community to drive with more caution and less speed.

“Most accidents usually happen around this time and especially [involve] young men in particular, [who] tend [to speed more],” he said.

Supt. Wright further emphasised that although a seat belt may or may not have saved the victim in this case, the driver was not wearing his seat belt.

Further investigations into on how the accident occurred, is pending, but the names of the said victims are expected to be released in short order. Police found a cell phone and drivers licence in the car- registration number 1169485.

In other news, police authorities foiled a prisoner’s escape attempt on Friday, when he jumped off the police bus as he was being escorted to Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) Friday.

The bus was in the Prince Charles Drive and Fox Hill road vicinity around 12 in the afternoon, when inmate, Tameco Ferguson, made a run for freedom.

Prison officers, who were coincidentally at the intersection, ran behind Ferguson and fired several warning shots before apprehending him. Ferguson was then transferred onto a police bus and returned to (HMP).
