The PUNCH newspaper tabloid reports that the self-styled empress of the PLP, Lady Margueritte Pindling, will be sworn in as Deputy Governor General this week. ﾠMrs. Pindling is believed to have profited from the hundreds of millions of dollars that her husband raked in as a partner of Carlos Lehder, the notorious Columbian drug dealer who used the Bahamas as his base of operations during the late 1980's.
The other two deputies to the Governor General are Paul Adderly, the allegedly corrupt lawyer who was instrumental in creating the discrimination against women that is part and parcel of the flawed Bahamian constitution, and Sir Clement Maynard, father of Attorney General Allyson Maynard-Gibson.
Prime Minister Christie is said to be "sucking up" to Pindling's widow as he wants to base his campaign theme for the 2007 election on the legacy of the disgraced former Prime Minister. ﾠChristie desparately needs votes from the criminally-minded majority to beat the FNM in the upcoming elections. ﾠIt is widely believed that Mrs. Pindling holds sway over the criminal elements of Bahamian society.
