Activist Rodney Moncur, who caused a furor earlier this week when he claimed on radio that she was the target of an assassination attempt, last night repeated his claim – and said Haitian rebels disliked her because she is a cousin of deposed president Jean-Bertrand Aristide. However, Mrs. Newry is not Mr. Aristide’s cousin, she is the cousin of Mr. Aristide’s wife, Mildred Trouillot, an American lawyer of Haitian origin, who served as a legal advisor to the Haitian government while Mr. Aristide was in exile and after his return to Haiti in 1994.
