As BEC’s Bahamas Electrical Workers Union threatened a massive strike by Monday if union demands are not met by the end of the week, the Ministry of Helath’s Parliamentary Secretary, Ron Pinder, pleaded with the union yesterday to act responsibly and refrain from causing massive blackouts.
With the prospect of industrial action at BEC on the horizon government officials will also have to content with the possibility of a teachers strike as the relationship between government and administrators at many schools becomes increasingly tense. Last week BTU President Kingsley Black said a nation-wide strike by teachers was “very possible”.
And while many fear the prospect of a blackout, the public has to contend with an ongoing island wide water shortage with many residents being cut off from water supplies for several hours.
