Which Caribbean destinations are hot? Judging from new data from the Caribbean Tourist Organization, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, the Bahamas and Jamaica. The DR had 3.4 million tourist visitors in 2004, by far the most of any island, while Cuba had 1.9 million (few of them Americans). The Bahamas welcomed 1.4 million and Jamaica 1.3 million. In terms of up-and-comers, Anguilla, Montserrat, St. Maarten and the Cayman Islands saw the greatest increase in air arrivals.
The Bahamas also was the top cruise ship stop in the Caribbean, with 3.7 million cruise passengers flooding the islands. Second was the U.S. Virgin Islands, then the Cayman Islands (presumably, before the hurricane.) The up-and-coming cruise ship destinations include Dominica, Belize, Granada (before the hurricane) and Barbados
