Spirit Airlines Increases Flights To Nassau

In what has become an influx of air services to The Bahamas over the last several months, Spirit Airlines has announced new non-stop service between Orlando and Nassau, Bahamas starting on November 10, 2005.

“We are delighted to add to our Nassau offering with new non-stop service from Orlando,” said Barry Biffle, Chief Marketing Officer of Spirit Airlines. “This new route will start just in time for the peak holiday season and is yet another way Spirit is becoming the leading low cost carrier to The Bahamas and the Caribbean.”

But officials have pointed out that there are now worried about the imbalance between air services and available hotel rooms in The Bahamas.

There are about 9,000 hotel rooms in New Providence with about 15,000 in entire country. But tourism officials have acknowledged that they need even more and a diverse range of inventory.

“We look forward to welcoming more Spirit service to and from Nassau this fall. Spirit has been an excellent partner in bringing quality and affordable service to the Bahamas to drive tourism to our islands,” said Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace, Director General of The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

Founded in 1990, Fort Lauderdale-based Spirit Airlines is the largest privately-held airline in the U.S., and has service to 18 cities, including: Atlantic City, N.J.; Cancun, Mexico; Chicago/O’Hare; Detroit; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Nassau, Bahamas; New York/LaGuardia.

The airline also services Providence/Boston Area; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Washington, D.C./Reagan National; and the Florida cities of Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa, with seasonal service to West Palm Beach.

“We are pleased that Spirit has selected Orlando International Airport for their new service route to The Bahamas. The Caribbean basin is one of our largest international markets and this added service will connect travelers to our award-winning customer service that has helped to make Orlando International the busiest airport in the state of Florida,” says C.W. Jennings, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

Introductory fares when booking at spiritair.com for travel between Nassau and Orlando start at $59* each way for coach and $79* each way for Spirit Plus business class. Introductory fares are available for travel November 10, 2005 through December 15, 2005 and must be booked on spiritair.com by May 24, 2005.
