Man Caught Attempting To Steal From Church

Mitchell Derosier, 27, of Pinder’s Point was unable to post the $5,000 bail levied against him by Magistrate Subu Swain-Lasalle Tuesday morning, so he remains behind bars.

According to police information, Derosier was apprehended early Sunday morning attempting to steal from the Church of God House of Praise located on the compound of Dr. Roop’s Holistic Health Clinic, Pioneer’s Way.

Officers are crediting a female resident of the Pioneer’s Way area for quick thinking and action.

Chief Superintendent of Police Basil Rahming, press liaison officer said in a statement that the woman contacted police around 5:20 a.m. Sunday, reporting that she heard the sound of breaking glass.

After hearing the sound, the woman looked out toward the church and noticed a man entering through a back window.

Mr. Rahming said she immediately called police and officers from the Central Division on mobile patrol along the Mall responded within seconds.

The officers on silent approach were able to catch the man in the act, arresting the culprit before he could steal anything from the sanctuary.

Derosier pleaded not guilty to the charges and the case was adjourned to November 15, 2005.
