Police Charged With Dangerous Driving In Mortimerメs Death

The police officer whose dangerous driving caused the death of Lester Mortimer several weeks ago was arraigned in court on Wednesday.

Terrance Thompson pleaded guilty to the charge of dangerous driving.

According to court documents, around 9pm on Saturday April 16, Thompson was driving east along West Bay Street in a manner that was dangerous to the public, resulting in the death of Mr. Mortimer, the proprietor of Mortimerᄡs Candy Kitchen on East Street.

Magistrate Renee McKay ordered Thompson to pay a $10,000 fine or spend one-year in prison. He opted to pay the fine.

Itᄡs now up to the Commissioner of Police Paul Farquharson to decide whether he still has a position on the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

The commissioner told The Bahama Journal on Wednesday that once a review of the officerᄡs file and court transcripts is complete, that decision will be made.
