Bahamian Arrested In Bimini Tourist Murders

Police were holding one person in connection with the murders of two visiting Austrian nationals this past weekend, Assistant Commissioner of Police responsible for crime Reginald Ferguson confirmed yesterday.

But, he refused to give further details on the arrest.

The couple – Barbara Frelln von Perfall, a member of the Austrian royal family and her companion, Berhard Bolzano – was found shot to death in their hotel room at the Anchorage Bimini Blue Water Resort on Saturday

It was the same day they were expected to end their three-day visit to that island.

The couple was reportedly engaged to be married.

This week, the Austrian Honorary Consul in The Bahamas Ernst Rumer said he was hoping for a quick breakthrough in the case to minimize the chances of any fallout once news spread about the slayings.

On Tuesday police reported that they still had no suspects and no motive.

The bodies had been flown to Nassau for an autopsy to be performed.

News about the arrest spread quickly in Bimini, a quaint island whose earnings are primarily generated from tourism, much like the rest of The Bahamas.

The man whom police were said to be holding was reportedly a resident of Alice Town.
