Bahamians Get Wise To Fundraising Scams

Church members and the public in general have snubbed a bid by leading Baptist Rev Neil Ellis to raise $1 million for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and Rita in New Orleans.

Many people felt Ellis needed to raise money for victims of hurricanes in The Bahamas rather than in the U.S. – easily the world’s richest country. And they showed their disapproval of the U.S. fundraising drive by Rev Ellis and his close associate, Frankie “Snake” Wilson, Chief fundraiser of the PLP.

Ellis bragged that he’d get the 7,000 members of his Mt Tabor Church to give $1,000 each. And Wilson boasted of raising hundreds of thousand of dollars in a ZNS telethon.

But, Rev Ellis has only collected a total of $17,000 – $5,000 from Mt Tabor and $12,000 from his 29 “sister” churches that are all partners of Full Gospel Church, New Orleans. And Wilson’s telethon raised $150,000.
