This year’s homicide count increased by one early Thursday after a 28-year-old year man succumbed to injuries sustained during an attempted armed robbery late Tuesday evening, police said.
Police said Theotis Johnson is the country’s 35th homicide. The Fox Hill resident died in hospital around 2am Thursday, according to officials.
Johnson was shot shortly after 9pm Tuesday while a passenger in a Nissan vehicle in the Augusta Street area, Bain Town, police said.
They said another man approached him, demanding cash.
After he did not receive any money, police said the criminal, who was brandishing a handgun, shot Johnson in the back of the head.
Police said on Thursday they were still not following any substantial leads into this latest slaying.
More Armed Robberies in Residential Areas
Police were on Thursday also looking for the culprits behind two separate armed robberies, the first one occurring after 10pm in the Cable Beach area.
Police said a 33-year-old man had just arrived home when two masked men approached him – one of whom was armed with a handgun and demanded cash.
According to Police Inspector Walter Evans, the bandits robbed the man of his wallet and wristwatch.
Around midnight, police responded to a similar call at Tower Heights in the eastern district.
A 34-year-old man was reportedly exiting his vehicle when a masked gunman robbed him of a small amount of cash and a bag before escaping in the Prince Charles area.
As a result of the recent spate of armed robberies, police urged residents to take the following precautions, particularly when entering their homes at night.
Be vigilant. Pay attention to any unusual activity that may have occurred since leaving home such as an open gate, unfamiliar vehicles parked nearby, house doors forced open, shattered windows, etc.
Be on the lookout for persons whose intention it is to deprive citizens of personal property such as jewelry, wallets, money and vehicles.
Have crime-watch groups established in your neighbourhood or activate crime-watch groups that are not functional. This assists in a reduction in crime and is an added blend to existing police patrols.
Keep the police informed of any suspicious activity regardless of how insignificant it may seem.
