That was the chilling message to PM Perry Chrlstie and his “new” PLP from a senior U.S. official close to the Bush Administration.
Speaking exclusively to The Punch, the official said: “If the PM does not listen to Florida Governor Jeb Bush and follow his suggestions, then it may get even more difficult for Bahamians to enter the U.S.
Gov Bush is concerned about the treatment of Cubans at the Carmichael Road Detention Centre and U.S. citizens being victims of violent crime in The Bahamas. “It is our belief that conditions at the Centre have gotten worse.”
U.S. Secretary Of State Condoleeza Rice was due to visit Nassau this month. But the official said that Rice will probably cancel her visit now. He said: “Rice and President Bush are upset with PM Chrlstie and Fred Mitchell for aligning their country with soclallst Cuba and Venezuela when The Bahamas is supposed to be one of America’s closest allies.”
