Man Shot During Robbery

A 41-year-old man was in serious but stable condition in hospital Tuesday after suffering gunshot wounds about the body during an armed robbery early that morning.

Police said the incident happened just before 3am when the man arrived at his Colony Village home.

Police reported that three masked men dressed in dark clothing, one armed with a handgun, approached the homeowner.

Inspector Walter Evans said police received reports that the burglars held the man at bay and proceeded to rob him of a small amount of cash.

The culprits reportedly demanded more, but after learning that the homeowner had nothing else to give, they fired a series of gunshots, hitting the man in the left chest, the right abdomen area and the left leg.

Police reports reveal that only two hours earlier, a man had just finished using Commonwealth Bank’s ATM on Nassau Street when a dark male approached him.

Police said the bandit, who was armed with a knife, reportedly demanded cash.

The man later fled on foot with the money, police reported.

Police also said they were still searching for the third man suspected of being involved in the killing of businessman Keith Carey two weeks ago.

“We are asking [members of] the public to continue their assistance regarding the whereabouts of this individual,” said Inspector Evans.

“He is still wanted by the police and we need to do what is necessary to ensure that he is brought before the courts, but we can only ensure a safe community when the police and the public work hand in hand.”

Police said Sean Brown, a resident of Rocky Pine Road, has only two fingers on his right hand. He is considered armed and dangerous.

His alleged cohorts – Dwight Knowles, 22, and Jamal Glinton, 24 – were charged with murder on Monday.

In addition to being charged with causing Mr. Carey’s death, the men were charged with armed robbery in connection with the incident.

Police allege the men robbed the businessman of $40,000 in cash and cheques, the property of Esso On the Run on Carmichael Road and Faith Avenue.

In other news from the crime beat, officers of the Quiet Storm Operation arrested 15 persons on Monday, police said.

The group reportedly included seven illegal immigrants, six Haitian males and one Jamaican female. Six persons were also arrested for illegal gambling and two for outstanding warrants, police said.
