A news release e-mailed by the Bahamas government on Monday said that, effective immediately, it would charge $150 for boats up to 35 feet long and $300 for larger boats. The previous fee was $100 for all foreign boats.
But boaters visiting the island of Bimini, 50 miles east of Miami, for last weekend’s Independence Day holiday reported that officials were already charging the higher fees.
Boaters who are still planning to cruise to the Bahamas can call or e-mail Keith Gomez at the Bahamas Tourist Office in Plantation for information. Call 1-800-327-7678 or e-mail kgomez@bahamas.com.
