Apart from two incidents of drowning the potcake population in New Providence survived Hurricane Frances, the Bahamas Humane Society reported yesterday.
Initial concerns from Jane Mather, president of Advocates for Animal Rights, with regards to the welfare of the nation’s stray dog population, during the storm, appeared not to materialise.
“We thought that we were going to have a lot of rain (in the capital) and as I said, the puppies wouldn’t make it. But we really did not have that much rain, and I really have had no reports, except for a couple of incidents of dogs getting lost. But thankfully it went pretty good. I think the potcakes fared pretty good. Thank God for that,” said Mrs. Mather.
