The Bahamas is facing one of the most “intense hurricanes in its recorded history” Prime Minister Perry Christie warned the country yesterday.
The category four Hurricane Frances has already struck the southern Bahamas with ferocious 140mph winds and is expected to sweep throgh the central Bahamas today.
Meterologists are calling Hurricane Frances the worst hurricane to hit the Bahamas in years and both public and private sector officials are bracing for the inevitable economic fall-out after a storm of such magnitude.
Coastal storm surge flooding of 10-15 feet above sea level and dangerous battering waves can be expected in the Bahamas near the eye of Frances.
Prime Minister Christie said that Frances is a “major and potentially very dangerous hurricane.”
