For the second time, following a major hurricane, government employees have prevented much needed aid from reaching a devastated island.
This time, it was in Grand Bahama, where sixteen thousand pounds of food failed to reach West End as scheduled because the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) prevented an International Rescue plane from landing at the hurricane ravaged island.
Only a few weeks ago, a similar incident occurred when an island constable in San Salvador blocked a plane load of relief supplies destined for that devastated island following Hurricane Frances. As was the case in San Salvador, the reasons given for this most recent outrage are ridiculous and show that the PLP Government plays games when the lives of Bahamians are at stake.
The reasons given by NEMA were that on the previous day an International Rescue helicopter had on board a “private citizen”” and a member of the press
