Castration and the death penalty should be implemented and carried out in the Bahamas as a deterrent to rapists and murderers, said the Bahamas Democratic Movement yesterday.
Speaking out against increasing reports of violent crimes this year, the BDM’s leader Cassius Stuart said in a statement that a strong message must be sent to criminals that “they are no longer tolerated or accepted in our society”.
The party is demanding the enforcement of the death penalty. It also wants government to implement legislation to castrate all rapists and child molesters.
“The recent brutal murders throughout the Bahamas have raised many questions as to the effectiveness of our government’s policies towards crime,” said the statement.
“This year we also have experienced an excessive number of rapes, not just towards our women but also towards our young boys. We cannot accept this hideous behaviour from perverted individuals who violate the rights of others.”
The BDM, stating that it believes the present administration is “failing in the war on crime”, called for the resignation of National Security Minister Cynthia Pratt.
“It is obvious that she is not doing an effective job,” said the BDM.
