Jitney drivers have threatened to stage a massive sit-out after the Department of Road Traffic issued 68 traffic citations for what the drivers considered to be “petty and biased” charges.
The drivers were given citations for a variety of traffic violations including not closing doors while the bus was in motion, stopping in areas which were not designated bus stops or creating third lanes while driving.
Some were also summoned for not wearing proper attire. The drivers were ordered to report to the Department of Road Traffic at ten yesterday morning for a hearing before the controller or the assistant controle.
However, tempers flew as bus drivers became upset at what they considered to be biased and unfair charges.
