Phase III Scaled Down

Ground was broken for the second part of Atlantis’ Phase III which has been amended to now feature a 600-room luxury ”all suites” hotel and a 400-room condo hotel instead of the planned four star 1,500 room hotel.

The revision of the initial plan is said to be a response to the growing trend towards a more high-end tourism product and help the company to remian on the cutting edge of the industry.

”The decision we’ve come to in terms of amending the product is really a reflection of what’s happened in the travel industry in the past 12 to 24 months,” Cheif Executive Officer Howard “Butch” Kerzner said yesterday at a press conference.

Construction of the condo hotel is scheduled to start by December 2005 and completed in 2007, said Prime Minister Perry Christie.

Mr. Christie also announced that government has hired a consultant to review the growing road traffic problem in New Providence and to assist in facilitating transport from Nassau International Airport to the different destinations on the island, especially to Paradise Island.
