A dozen business executives from the Bahamas are in Southwest Florida this week. It’s part of an effort to build closer business, investment and tourism partnerships that could bring a lot of money to Southwest Florida.
“If you closed your eyes between here and Grand Bahamas you would hardly recognize a difference except we are driving on different side of street,” said Doswell Coakley of the Grand Bahamas Chamber of Commerce.
The delegation from the Grand Bahamas wanted to find out how to operate a tourist hot spot. They visited shopping centers, schools and hospitals.
“We don’t want to be an island unto ourselves. We want to be able to share with other people. People think of this as competition but really when you think about it we have as much to offer to them as they have to offer to us,” said Mark Crabb of the Lee County Visitor’s Bureau.
