MP Roberts and Baptist Rev Accused of Intimidating Rape Witness

In a shocking twist, the woman who claims she was raped by MP Bradley Roberts was forced to endure a face-to-face encounter with the alleged sex beast. The Bahamas Government, Bahamas Police and Mr. Robert’s attorneys, in an apparent bid to intimidate the woman into dismissing the charges, forced her to undergo the scary ordeal.

The Punch News tabloid reports that Dr. Sandra Dean-Patterson, head of the Women’s Crisis Centre, was said to be “very upset” when she learned of the “unusual” meeting.

It was reportedly the first time that a woman has been forced to suffer the indignity of having to undergo the traumatic experience of having to face her alleged rapist.

The brave 47 year-old woman confronted Minister Roberts in an arranged meeting at the Central Detective Unit (CDU) on Thompson Boulevard on Friday at 1:00pm. ᅠMr. Roberts arrived in his chauffeur-driven, blue-plated Minister’s car.

Also at the meeting were: drug lawyer and PLP MP Philip “Brave” Davis and Prince Bonamy, the lawyers for Mr. Roberts; Wallace Rolle and Wayne Munroe, the lawyers for the woman; Female Police Inspector Hamilton, who interviewed the victim after the alleged rape at her house in Marathon; Assistant Commissioner of Police Reginald Ferguson, officer in charge of crime; and Chief Supt. Marvin Dames, head of the CDU.

The woman has held her ground and refused to drop the charges despite the highly unusual and extremely intimidating tactics being used by the police and Mr. Robert’s attorneys.

Police have reportedly recommended that Attorney General Alfred Sears charge Mr. Roberts with rape.

In other related developments:

The FNM Action Group is reportedly set to fly to Washington, DC, this week to protest in front of the White House. ᅠThe group, made up mostly of women, will be brandishing signs protesting that the PLP Government of The Bahamas is failing to protect the rights of women, particularly in sex abuse cases.

This accusation was widely publicized over two years ago in an editorial critical of the sad plight of women in the Bahamas and the outrageous government-engineered discrimination against them. ᅠThe editorials (there were more than one) were published after Prime Minister Perry Christie failed to live up to his campaign promise to deal with the discrimination of women within 60 days after coming to office. So far, after more than two years in office, Mr. Christie has failed to even address the problem. Further, he has failed to make any public statements concerning the Bradley Robert’s rape accusations and has taken no action against Mr. Roberts, such as requesting that he step down until the matter is resolved by the courts.

The FNM protest is ironic, as BahamasB2B publicly suggested, when the FNM was in power, that only outside (international) intervention would ever force the government of the Bahamas to live up to the United Nations treaty, signed by the Bahamas, which vowed to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women.

Baptist Rev Meddles in Rape Case

In another unusual and some say illegal development, lawyers for the rape victim have filed a complaint against a popular Baptist Rev on behalf of their female client. The Rev invited the victim to his church office to discuss the situation and when she arrived she found MP Roberts was also in the Rev’s office.

The Punch reports that lawyers for the woman have said, “This meeting was most inappropriate and may have constituted an offence. We have asked the police to investigate. ᅠAnd, we expect charges to be filed against the Baptist Rev.”

The woman has reportedly rejected several efforts and various financial offers, from numerous parties, to settle her alleged rape case matter with MP Roberts out-of-court.

It is expected that Mr. Roberts will be charged and that the case will disappear in the courts, forever, during which time the press will be prohibited from discussing it. ᅠThis is the usual modus-operandi for cases “problematic” to the government.
