Bahamas Minister of Works, Bradley Roberts is breathing easier tonight after it was disclosed that the Police have recommended that no charges be brought against Mr. Roberts for the allegations of rape that have been dogging him for two weeks. A public announcement to that effect will be forthcoming.
The police investigation, which has been heavily criticised, ended yesterday and the file was referred to the Attorney General’s office for appropriate action. Both the slow pace and the odd tactics used in the investigation have come under fire by retired members of the law enforcement community.
After concluding their investigation the police took the unusual step of holding a press conference to justify their slow response to the charges which were originally filed in early December. It took the police three weeks to interview Mr. Roberts and then they took the unprecedented move of making the victim attend a meeting with Mr. Roberts and his lawyers.
The victim and her lawyer had earlier indicated their willingness to pursue the matter in civil court if the Attorney General’s office chose not to prosecute.
